ALSO Foundation appoints new CEO

National News

The {also} Foundation has confirmed today that Crusader Hillis has been appointed as the organisation’s new Chief Executive Officer.

Crusader will be known to many in the community for his work as Director/CEO of Gasworks Arts Park, as well as with Melbourne International Arts Festival and Queer Film, and as co-proprietor of Hares and Hyenas bookshop.

{also} Foundation President, Jason Rostant said “we are very excited about welcoming Crusader to this important leadership position within our thriving GLBTIQ community."

"He brings a strong background working with diverse communities including people with disabilities, women, Indigenous and trans people, and his work is widely and highly respected.

“There is no doubt that Crusader will become a wonderful asset to {also} as we continue to meet our aims of celebrating, advocating, leading and investing in the breadth of the GLBTIQ community”, Mr Rostant said.

As Director of the Gasworks Arts Park, Crusader has been highly successful in growing the organisation, raising its profile, and leading it in a new direction that includes an active social inclusion program for otherwise marginalised communities.

Of his appointment, Crusader Hillis said, “{also} is Victoria’s peak body for GLBTIQ people, and is unique in Australia for its work, particularly in breaking down isolation and advocating work for the wider queer community.

“Unlike many organisations it reaches well beyond the urban inner city to take on the interests of diverse and far-flung community members. I have great respect for the visionary people who started {also} and for those who have steered it over the past three decades."

“It’s not a simple task to balance competing demands on a daily basis; it is both daunting and exciting to be entrusted with the task of taking this key organisation forward into a sustainable future”, Mr Hillis said.

Mr Rostant concluded by saying Crusader’s leadership, energy and vision would greatly add to {also}’s ability to reach its membership and more effectively communicate the breadth of its work.

“As {also} celebrates its thirtieth year we look forward to the next thirty. Crusader’s appointment heralds an exciting new chapter in the organisation’s life”, he said.

Crusader will officially commence full-time in the CEO role in early May following a transition period beginning next month.
